Arrrrgggh! Too many notifications.

Words! They hurt! But it doesn’t mean you have to see them.
Hide post for me
Look… I didn’t like what they wrote.
Hide reply for me
Look… I didn’t like what they wrote (again).
Hide reply for everyone
Look… That’s outrageous! I don’t think anyone should see that!
Edit interaction settings
Method 1 of changing it when you’ve already posted.
You are in complete control of who can reply to your posts and who quote your posts AND even change whether your replies can be quoted.
The other ways to Edit interaction settings –
There are another two ways. Method 2 of changing it when you’ve already posted and the Method to change it whilst typing up a post.
Detach quote
Detach your post that’s been quoted by someone else.
Delete post
Because you did a booboo or stupid and you need to delete it.
Because someone else did a vindictive or stupid thing and you think it needs moderation.
Enable priority notifications
It will only notify you of reply and quotes from those that you follow. (Experimental)
Introduction
Hey! You’re back again.
Let me guess, you’re here to learn about the post and reply, actionable front end privacy/security options and notification settings, right? 🤔
I knew you couldn’t stay away! 😅
Before I continue, I’m just going to ask if you could consider buying me a coffee. You can do that on the link below.
Buy Mike Jay a coffee through his Amicite account on Ko-Fi.
Now let’s talk options menus, what’s in them, what the options do, when is best to use them, etc…
As always, there’s a contents menu… It’s somewhere around here… with quick links to specific sections on this article, which will take you straight to that point.
You can even right click on the links and Copy link address and when you share them, it’ll take those clicking on it… directly to that section.
I also added a Google Translate function to the site. If you need to view the page in any other language, you can now do so. I hope it’s helpful.
Let’s continue. Shall we?
Information
Here's a tip
How to access the menu options on posts and replies
So… The post and reply options are accessible by pressing or clicking on the ellipsis on every post and reply by or from you and others.
You’ll find it at the bottom of the post or reply with the icons and counts for replies, repost/quote posts and the like icon.
You don’t know what an ellipsis is?
Have you been avoiding pressing menus on your phone?
An ellipsis is 3 dots, next to each other.
Like this: …
I’ve even put a red box around it on the provided screen capture.
What options are available in each post and reply menu
What are the differences between the menus options based on post or reply ownership?
There are 5 types of post and reply ownership and these influence how the menus are shown.
Your posts
These are yours own posts and the options shown to you.
Others Replies on your own posts
You made the post and these options are on those replying to you.
Your replies on your own or others posts
These are the options shown to you when opening the menu on your own reply to your own or someone else’s posts.
Others Replies on others posts
These are the options shown to you when opening the menu on someone else’s reply to someone else’s post.
Others Posts
These are the options dhow to you when opening the menu on someone else’s post.

Functions
You use them, right?
Pin to your Profile
Rather simple concept… And you’re probably used to this.
Pin to your profile will pin the post to the top of your profile.
You’ll find this option on any of your own posts and replies.
If you already have a Pinned Post on your profile and you pin a new post, this will remove the previous one.
Alternatively, you could Unpin the post from your profile prior to doing so.
Unpin from Profile
On the Bluesky website
On the Bluesky App
If you already have a Pinned Post on your profile and want to remove it, press the ellipsis (3 dots).
Inside the menu here, you’ll find Unpin from profile.
And just like that, it will disappear.
Translate
With the massive variation of languages on Bluesky, it’s not surprising that a translate option is available and it’s conveniently placed in every post and reply ellipsis menu.
All you have to do is select it and Google Translate will open and do the work for you.
Simples.
translate directly from a posts view
In some cases, you won’t need the ellipsis menus Translate option.
This is because there may be a Translate link on the post you’re struggling to read in Portuguese or something else.
If you click on the post, you’ll see a Translate link next to the Posts time stamp and interaction setting.
Even simpler.
Copy post text
This is a rather simple option, it copies the entire text of a post, so you can can paste it elsewhere.
It has it’s uses:
You typed up a post, posted it and notice it’s full of errors. Copy the post text, delete the post and paste the text into the post composer screen. This way you can edit it and repost it. The absence of an edit option hurts.
Send via direct message
So… You just posted an amazing post… Or someone else did and you feel that your bestie can’t live without it.
Then use this option to send it directly to them.
Then select the person you want to send it to.
Using this method will display the post inside of the chat screen.
Share
You’ll only find this option on the Bluesky application.
Pressing it will use the Android or iOS sharing menu to allow you to copy or share the post link to other applications you have on your device.
Copy link to post
You’ll only find this option on the Bluesky website using a web browser.
Pressing it will copy the link to the post to allow you to paste it elsewhere.
Embed post
This option is only available on the desktop and mobile website of Bluesky.
What’s this embed post option used for?
You have a website or blog, right?
No? Then you’ll probably never need this option.
However, those that do can embed Bluesky posts and replies on to their website by clicking this option, pressing Copy code and pasting it where they want it.
The white box here, is an embedded post on this article. That’s the example.
Making this new theme universal across my hobby identity website, Amicite, was and still is on the top of my list. Look how tidy the music project pages are on mobile devices. Here's the example… Through the Darkest Glass. amicite.co.uk/project/musi…

Mute thread
You’ve started something. You posted something interesting or midnight club exploded because everyone has insomnia.
And now… Your notifications are getting too much on this one reply thread and you want your quiet, once again.
Mute thread will disable the notifications for the post or reply you select it for.
Finally! Silence!
Mute words & tags
This is essentially a quick access link to the Mute words & tags options.
I wrote about these in detail in the
Bluesky for EXiters – You’re Setting Me Up? – Mute words & tags section of the article.
Hide post for me
This option is only available on other peoples posts.
Do you absolutely refuse to see any post, for any reason?
Choose this option to hide it from your view, completely.
Hide reply for me
This option is available in all reply threads on any one else’s replies.
Do you absolutely refuse to see any reply, for any reason?
Choose this option to hide it from your view, completely.
Hide reply for everyone
This option is available when using the ellipsis on others replies on your own post.
Has someone said something very distasteful?
Choose this option to hide it from everyone’s view, completely.
Edit Interaction Settings
There are 3 ways to edit your own posts interaction settings.
Method 1:
The ellipsis menu option allows you to change the permissions of those that can reply to your post, after you’ve posted it.
Select this option to do so.
The differences in the Edit Interaction Settings
Your own posts
When you use this on your own post you’ll be greeted to the options to change who can reply and change whether you’re allowing others the opportunity to quote post, your post.
Your own replies on others posts
If you choose this on one of your own replies, on someone else’s reply thread, you’ll only be able to change the setting for whether you’re allowing Quote Posts of your reply.
Â
Another way to change interaction settings after posting
Method 2:
Click on the post and look at the time stamp at the bottom of it.
To the right of this, you’ll see Everybody can reply (or whatever you initially set it as) with a pencil icon.
Click on this and the Edit interaction settings screen will appear.
Or just make sure you've changed them before posting
Right… You’re on the post composer screen… As shown in the screenshot.
In the bottom left, you’ll see Anybody can interact.
Clicking on that will bring up the Edit interaction settings screen for the post you’re typing up.
Detach Quote
On the Bluesky website
On the Bluesky App
This function is an unique and interesting one. And it was never on Twitter/X.
The Detach quote functionality allows you to…
Detach your Quoted Post from the post of the individual posting it.
This is important for various reasons:
- If you feel insulted or hounded by the posters comments with your post quoted.
- If you forgot to Disable Quote Posts from within the Interaction Settings when you composed and posted your post.
To Detach your post, go to the post where your post is quoted. Press the ellipsis (3 dots) on their post, then select Detach quote.
Delete Post
The function “to delete” is an obvious one.
You made a grammatically incorrect nonsense post or you said something completely out of line and you’ve realised you were an insensitively stupid individual.
You can use this to delete it.
Simples!
The function to report things that are unacceptable behaviours.
I covered its uses in the Bluesky for EXiters – Label Me This or Don’t – Reporting Posts, Replies and Profiles article.
Simples!
Additional Settings
not really that exciting
Enable priority notifications
Go to your notification screen.
In the top right, you’ll see a gear icon.
Press it.
You’ll only see one option here and it’s experimental.
Enable priority notifications will only notify you of reply and quotes from those that you follow.
If I were you, I’d keep this disabled.
If you have enabled this and everything seems broken… You may want to untick the box.
There hasn’t been any additional options added here for some time.
Outro
That's a wrap!
So…
That concludes this run down on all the post and reply options menus, how they look, other methods for translating posts and replies, and 3 methods for editing a posts interaction settings too.
I hope you find it useful.
If you did, a coffee is always a welcome addition for the time I put into these.
But it’s not an obligation.
Bye for now
