The so solid palette patch
I’ve just rolled out a shiny new update that finally tames the mischievous colour wheel and fixes the sneaky issue that wouldn’t let you copy colour values from the meta panels below. Everything should now spin smoothly and copy beautifully; go ahead, give it a whirl and enjoy! 🎨
USING THIS TOOL
Enter any colour using the picker or text field at the top of this panel. The text field accepts 6-digit hex (#RRGGBB), 8-digit hex with transparency (#RRGGBBAA), RGB, RGBA, HSL, and CMYK formats. All panels update together — changing a value in any tab immediately reflects across all others.
COLOUR WHEEL
Click or drag anywhere on the wheel to set the hue and saturation of your colour. The horizontal position around the circle controls hue (0–360°) and the distance from the centre controls saturation. The wheel redraws at the current lightness value so it always shows the accurate available colours. Use the Transparency slider beneath the wheel to control the alpha channel.
RGBA CONTROLS
Adjust the Red, Green, and Blue channels independently on a 0–255 scale. Each slider track shows the live gradient of what that channel produces at the current values of the other two channels. The Alpha slider controls transparency from 0 (fully transparent) to 1 (fully opaque). Each slider track updates in real time.
HSL CONTROLS
Hue (0–360°) selects the base colour from the full spectrum. Saturation (0–100%) controls how vivid or grey the colour is. Lightness (0–100%) controls how dark or light the colour is, from black at 0% through the pure hue at 50% to white at 100%. The Hue track always shows the full rainbow. Saturation and Lightness tracks update to reflect the current colour.
CMYK CONTROLS
Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black) are the four channels used in print colour mixing. These are calculated from the RGB values and converted back — small rounding differences between tabs are a mathematical property of converting between colour models and are present in all professional tools.
HARMONIES
Click any harmony card to select it. The output swatches below will update to show the colours in that harmony, and the wheel will display markers at each colour's position. The active harmony card stays highlighted. Harmonies are recalculated live as you change the base colour.
COPYING VALUES
Click any value pill in the output swatches to copy it to your clipboard. The pill will briefly confirm the copy was successful.
